Before your trip

Imagine arriving at a crucial business meeting overseas and finding that your mobile doesn't work. Fortunately, there are some easy steps you can take before you leave to make sure this doesn't happen.

  1. First, check whether your mobile device is compatible with the local network. Go to 'What are the costs', tell us where you're going and we'll give you all the information you'll need.
  2. Next, make sure your mobile device isn't 'barred' from use abroad. Some 'pay monthly' service providers do this automatically for your protection, but are usually happy to lift it if you call the customer service number on your bill.
  3. To allow you to pick up your voicemail messages abroad, you'll need to personalise the security code which is automatically activated whenever you're overseas. Just call 121 from your Vodafone mobile and follow the instructions.
  4. Don't forget to pack your phone charger and an international adapter.
