1. Check that you can use your mobile phone in the country you're visiting.
We've created a special web page to help you find out whether your Vodafone mobile will work in the country you're visiting. Some networks operate on different frequency bands, so it's important to check that your mobile is compatible with the network you want to use. Go to our costs and coverage area (see the link below) and check the handset type. What are the costs?
Most of the time when you go to a country in Europe you will find there are several network providers. There can be different call charges depending on which network provider you connect to. Find out how much calls cost when you are connected to any of the networks in the European country you are go to. www.roaming.gsmeurope.org
2. Make sure that your mobile isn't 'barred' from use abroad
Customers may find that their service provider (the company that sends their monthly bills) has barred them from overseas use. This barring can usually be removed by telephoning the Customer Care number on your bill.
3. Set up your security code for Vodafone Voicemail
For some of the most popular destinations you may not need to set up a PIN to access your voicemail. However, for some networks you may be required to enter your voicemail security code so you'll need to personalise this code before you travel to be able to access your messages. To do this, call 121 and follow the instructions by pressing 1, then 4, then 2.
4. Pack your phone charger and a travel plug adaptor. It's easy to forget!
5. TopUp before you go if you're pay as you talk
If you're taking a pay as you talk mobile phone, remember to TopUp before you go, we recommend you TopUp with between £15 to £20.
If you will be using data make sure you know what the daily rates are and ensure you have enough credit.
6. Make a note to use 112 for emergency services in all of Europe (except for Bulgaria. Dial 150 Ambulance, 160 Fire/Rescue, 166 Police).
